Alexander Landau severely beaten at traffic stop

Alexander Landau, a student at the Community Collge of Denver, was stopped during a traffic stop. Denver police officers demanded to search his trunk, when Landau refused stating that the officers did not have a warrant they proceeded to savagely beat him.

The officers involved claimed that Landau was attempting to grab one of their firearms during the stop which initiated the beating. The officers changed their story to the district attorney and "remembered" additional events after the fact that were not in their initial statements in an attempt to implicate Landau. Charges against Landau for attempting to disarm a police officer were dropped after defense attorneys revealed the changing story.

The Denver Police Department's internal affairs division declined to open an investigation into the matter of the beating or the officers' shifting stories in the complaint against Landau.
